Nets Untroubled by Violent Woman in Gorilla Mask Hurling Egg at Larry Elder

The big three networks this morning didn’t seem to care that a black man running for office was assaulted by a white woman in a gorilla mask yesterday. Probably because that man was conservative radio host, Larry Elder, running for governor in the blue state of California.

Only ABC and CBS covered part of the vile incident on their morning shows Thursday, while NBC ignored it all together.

On Good Morning America, reporter Zohreen Shah touted how Democrats were campaigning for Newsom in California and how President Obama even released an ad telling Californians to vote no on the recall. When it came to Elder, she seemed to justify the nasty treatment he received from an angry crowd while touring a homeless encampment in Venice Beach. “But despite a double digit lead over other challengers Elder does not have widespread support. During a campaign event overnight, Several homeless people chasing him away and someone throwing an egg in his direction,” she noted before moving on. ABC didn’t even show the woman who threw the egg. She was wearing a gorilla mask, which I’m sure wouldn’t immediately be bashed as racist if Elder was a Democrat, right?

CBS did show the egg-thrower in their report. But like ABC, they passed no judgement. Reporter Carter Evans also added balance to his report by giving a soundbite from California voters on each side of the recall: one for, one against.

When it came to Elder, he said the following, also without dwelling on the attack:

Republican front-runner and talk radio hold Larry Elder said he’ll repeal mask and vaccine mandates. He was heckled by homeless advocates, one of whom threw an egg at the candidate during an L.A. Campaign stop. Elder is currently leading the nearly four dozen candidates…

Neither network pointed out how the mob cursed at, threw other projectiles and started assaulting members of Elder’s security team before they left, as well.

This attack surely would’ve been labeled as racist by the media had Elder been a Democrat running in a red state.

ELDER: People are angry, people are furious.

SHAH: But despite a double digit lead over other challengers Elder does not have widespread support. During a campaign event overnight, Several homeless people chasing him away and someone throwing an egg in his direction. [off-camera]

SHAH:  Newsom faces 46 challengers in the fourth gubernatorial recall in U.S. History. If 50% of voters vote to recall Newsom he is out and then the opponent with the most number of votes no matter how many becomes the next governor.

CBS’s Mornings

9/9/21

UNIDENTIFIED CA VOTER: I’m going to vote for the recall.

CBS’S CARTER EVANS: Why?

UNIDENTIFIED CA VOTER: I’ve not been particularly happy with the governor’s performance, and I think he could have done better on the covid frankly.

LARRY ELDER: A third of all small businesses are now gone forever because he refused to allow us to use our own common sense, our own judgment —

EVANS: Republican front-runner and talk radio hold Larry elder said he’ll repeal mask and vaccine mandates. He was heckled by homeless advocates, one of whom threw an egg at the candidate during an L.A. Campaign stop. Elder is currently leading the nearly four dozen candidates. Both Republican and Democrat donors have spent millions on the recall, but Newsom’s backers have raised almost double the amount of all of his opponents. Now Democrats say energizing people to actually get out and vote is key to a win on Tuesday.

UNIDENTIFIED DEMOCRAT: Now that they’ve started to see and research like who is actually trying to become the new governor, they got a little freaked out, and now they’re voting.
