Hypocrisy! Pro-Censorship Dem Senators Complain to Facebook Pro-Abortion Posts Being Censored

Democratic Party Sens. Elizabeth Warren (MA) and Amy Klobuchar (MN) complained in a letter to Facebook and Instagram that some pro-abortion posts have been censored online. Yet both senators have been pushing for increased censorship online.

Warren and Klobuchar sent a letter to Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Instagram head Adam Mosseri, expressing concern that some pro-abortion posts have been censored on the Meta platforms. Ironically, both senators have previously called for increased censorship of alleged COVID-19 “misinformation.”

The hypocrisy of calling for censorship in one instance dealing with medical issues but not another is astounding.

The senators began the letter by framing Meta’s actions as attacks on truth. “We write to express our concern about reports that Facebook and Instagram are censoring posts containing accurate information about abortion in the wake of the Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs v. Jackson,” the senators wrote in the letter. “As a result of the Court’s decision, it is more important than ever that social media platforms not censor truthful posts about abortion, particularly as people across the country turn to online communities to discuss and find information about reproductive rights.”

The senators ended the letter with a list of requests for information from Facebook and Instagram, including, “Please provide a copy of all training materials or guidance provided to your content moderation teams about abortion posts in the current calendar year. For each, identify the document’s main author and who approved the document.”

Klobuchar and Warren both previously pushed for censorship of so-called COVID-19 “misinformation,” even though several COVID-19 narratives originally aggressively dubbed “misinformation” online were later widely admitted to be credible.

Klobuchar praised YouTube’s incredibly restrictive COVID-19 “misinformation” policies and urged Facebook to take similar actions in a Senate hearing. Warren demanded that Amazon censor so-called COVID-19 “misinformation” more.
