CNN Smears: Conservatives Say ‘U.S. Military’s Best Days Are Gone’

CNN likes to play the game of smearing conservatives for saying things they didn’t actually say. But because the network doesn’t really do journalism, it’s not surprising. Monday night’s episode of The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer, aired an interview by Barbara Starr with Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin. Starr immediately attacked conservatives who believe the “U.S. Military’s best days are gone.” The only evidence provided for this statement was an image of Senator Ted Cruz.

This bold claim pertains to a tweet from Cruz in response to a video comparison of Russian and American military ads. Cruz simply called into question the promotion of a woke and emasculated military. This is a result of the Department of Defense’s advocacy for diversity and inclusion in the military.

Starr asked Austin for his opinion on the softness of the military to which he replied “This is the best military in the world today. It will be the best military in the world tomorrow. It will be the best military in the world 20 years from now.”

It wouldn’t be a CNN interview without a push for progressive policy. In this case, Starr asked Austin for his take on diversity and inclusion programs in the military. Unsurprisingly, Austin praised these programs: “we represent the United States of America. We ought to look like America not only in the ranks, Barb, but our leadership should look like America.” Starr established the importance of Austin’s role as the first black Secretary of Defense who hopes that there will be a time when everyone can wake up and feel the same.

The popularization of diversity and inclusion initiatives in the military places leftist policies at the forefront of an institution created to protect America from foreign and domestic threats. However for CNN, as well as the Biden administration, this has become a long-term goal of the military and Department of Defense.

The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer
05/31/2021

BARBARA STARR: Today, the Secretary has no patience for those on the conservative spectrum who suggest the U.S. Military’s best days are gone.

STARR: You see, this whole question of whether or not as the Department of Defense tries to deal with diversity and inclusion, is the military getting too soft. Sounds like you don’t buy that. Is it too soft?

SECRETARY LLOYD AUSTIN: You know, I think our adversaries would like to capitalize on talking points like that, you know the Chinese, the Russians. This is the best military in the world today. It will be the best military in the world tomorrow. It will be the best military in the world 20 years from now.

BARBARA STARR: So, there’s still room for diversity and inclusion?

AUSTIN: We represent the United States of America. We ought to look like America not only in the ranks, Barb, but our leadership should look like America.

AUSTIN: Thank you for your trust and your confidence.

STARR: For America’s first black secretary of defense, the sprint to that day is on.

AUSTIN: There should be a day when everybody wakes up and feels, you know, the same. Part of my responsibility and one of my goals is to work towards that day and move this along as far as I can as fast as I can.
