Big Tech bias is not limited to Facebook, Google and Twitter. The ranking member of the House Judiciary Committee has decided to call out Microsoft for its censorship of conservative voices.
Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) sent a letter to Microsoft President Brad Smith calling out the tech giant for its massive “size and market dominance.” Jordan also said that Microsoft “is out to get conservatives.”
Jordan began his letter by calling out Microsoft’s size and voicing concerns about its penchant for gobbling up other companies. “Over the last three decades, Microsoft has acquired over 200 companies. At almost $2 trillion, Microsoft’s current market valuation is second only to Apple, Inc. among American companies,” said Jordan. “Among the office suite market, for instance, Microsoft has captured an estimated 87.5 percent of the market.”
Jordan also accused Microsoft-owned LinkedIn of censoring content critical of China. “Microsoft has also taken increasingly aggressive editorial control over content on its platforms. On behalf of the Chinese Communist Party, Microsoft has censored Bing search engine results of Tank Man on the anniversary of the Tiananmen Square protests—including results for users in the United States—and has muzzled the voices of China critics on LinkedIn.”
The congressman also pointed to several instances where LinkedIn censored conservative speech in his letter. For example, Jordan mentioned that “LinkedIn removed a post about an official U.S. Senate committee report concerning Hunter Biden.” The platform also “censored a post by an opinion editor at the Washington Times about Democrats’ abuse of executive orders and removed a post that linked to a study challenging prevailing liberal views on climate change,” according to Jordan.
Even Microsoft Word is apparently not exempt from the company’s censorship. “Microsoft Word’s ‘Ideas in Word’ tool urges users to avoid language that Microsoft dislikes and instead to adopt language Microsoft considers to be appropriate and ‘gender neutral,’” according to Jordan in his letter.
Microsoft has a long history of lefist bias. The company sided with rioters and against police in 2020, when it announced it would stop supplying police with facial recognition technology. Microsoft has also been accused by a former employee of discriminating against white and Asian men.
