“The View” co-host Meghan McCain blasted leftists for being anti-science after many said they’d keep wearing face masks, even though the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) now says individuals vaccinated against COVID-19 do not need to mask up.
During an episode of “The View” on Monday, co-host Whoopi Goldberg asked Meghan McCain what it will take for people to actually follow the science on COVID given the dearth of misinformation peddled by political activists on the left and right.
“I don’t think there’s your own science and then someone else’s science. Science is science. I’ve been lectured to for years as a Republican about climate change saying follow the science,” said McCain, as reported by Newsbusters. “I’m vaccinated, vaccinated. I’m back to life. I will not wear a mask unless I’m required to in a business or place. Obviously, I’ll respect what businesses want but I think at this point it’s just irrational and emotional especially when the CDC director is saying we’re coming up on impending doom.”
Meghan McCain then highlighted states like Texas and Florida for lifting their mask mandates by allowing people to live as normal while suffering few consequences.
“If there was impending doom, then Florida and Texas would be hellscapes of death and we’d have to have the National Guard coming in and saving people. That’s not what’s happening,” said McCain. “My family and friends in Arizona are living life normal. And guess what? There’s not impending doom. There’s not fire and fury and hellscape everywhere. This is irrational. People are reacting emotionally and not following their own science.”
McCain then played a clip of Rachel Maddow lamenting on her MSNBC show that she will have a hard time overcoming her fear of people not wearing a mask.
“I feel like I’m going to have to rewire myself and when I see someone not wearing a mask I don’t instantly think you’re a threat, or you are selfish or you are a COVID denier and you definitely haven’t been vaccinated,” Maddow said. “We have to rewire the way we look at each other because the CDC’s guidance which she just told me, is if you’re vaccinated, you don’t need to wear a mask except in very specific circumstances.”
Meghan McCain then suggested that the CDC lifted the mask guidelines for political reasons, fearing the economic fallout that could come from keeping life from going back to normal. CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky has denied that the CDC issued the change in policy for political reasons.
“I can tell you it certainly would have been easier if the science had evolved a week earlier and I didn’t have to go to Congress making those statements, but I’m delivering the science as the science is delivered to the medical journals,” she said. “And, you know, it evolved over this last week. The cases came down over the last two weeks. And so that’s — I delivered it as soon as I can when we had that information available.”
