President Joe Biden was asked about the reports of growing drama between Republicans and House Republican Conference Chair Liz Cheney (WY) on Wednesday.
Biden visited a local restaurant in Washington, D.C. and told the media that he ordered “tacos and some enchiladas.” Biden went to the restaurant in order to discuss his administration’s $28.6 billion program aimed at assisting restaurants that were hurt by the coronavirus pandemic, according to WAFB-9.
The restaurant, Taqueria Las Gemelas, reportedly received benefits from an early version of the restaurant relief program.
“The restaurant industry was so badly hurt nationwide,” Biden said during the appearance.
As the president left the eatery, he was asked about recent reports involving strife between top Republicans and Cheney.
According to a tweet put out by CSPAN, Biden was asked, “Do you have any comments on the efforts to oust Liz Cheney from the House Republican leadership post?”
Biden responded, “I don’t understand the Republicans” before ducking into his Secret Service vehicle.
Q: “What did you get?”
President Biden: “Tacos and some enchiladas.”

“The 2020 presidential election was not stolen. Anyone who claims it was is spreading THE BIG LIE, turning their back on the rule of law, and poisoning our democratic system,” she tweeted.
House Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA) was caught discussing his frustration with Cheney on a hot mic before an appearance on “Fox and Friends.”
The Daily Wire reported:
“I think she’s got real problems,” McCarthy told Fox News host Steve Doocy right before appearing on “Fox and Friends,” according to Axios. “I’ve had it with … I’ve had it with her. You know, I’ve lost confidence. … Well, someone just has to bring a motion, but I assume that will probably take place.”
“The comments, made amid seeming cross-talk with Doocy, outlined how the House conference chair could be removed by a vote from the chamber’s Republican members,” Axios further reported.
During the on-air interview, McCarthy said Republicans have “no concern” regarding Cheney’s vote to impeach former President Donald Trump, but did explain concerns regarding her ability to lead as House Republican conference chair.
“There’s no concern about how she voted on impeachment. That decision has been made,” said McCarthy. “I have heard from members concerned about her ability to carry out the job as conference chair, to carry out the message.”
According to reports, some believe that Cheney will be removed from her position before the end of the month.
The Daily Wire reported:
“There is no way that Liz will be conference chair by month’s end,” a top McCarthy ally said on Monday. “When there is a vote, it won’t be a long conference; it will be fast. Everyone knows the outcome.”
“She is a big distraction,” the ally said. “I don’t see McCarthy saving her this time.”
White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki commented on the topic on Tuesday. ”The Republican Party seems to be spending a lot of blood, sweat, and tears trying to figure out where they stand and what they stand for, and that’s their prerogative,” Psaki said.
“But our focus is on — and how we’re spending our time is on defeating the pandemic, growing our economy, building on that for the long run,” she continued. “And it’s no secret that the President doesn’t see eye to eye on many policies with Congresswoman Cheney, but his view is that the American people elected him, and also many people representing Congress — representing them in Congress to solve problems for them. And he’s going to continue to seek civility even when he disagrees.”
